My stones

"Dominoes are those tiny black things with the white dots." This is the opinion of many people which acutally isn't incorrect at all. However, hardy any domino builder uses these stones for own projects. This page should give you an overview about all the different dominoes there currently are on this planet. And after having seen this page, please don't ask "Where do you buy your stones?" anymore! :-D

Dominoes from Ebay

Maria Lamping is a ebay seller who owns a machine that produces dominos sized like the ones known from Domino Day. You can choose between more than 20 colors, sometimes more, sometimes less. A little clue: When you see an Ebay offer by Maria Lamping, just write her an e-mail. You can then choose your colors individually and have to pay less money for them compared to the Ebay offers. In order to give you an overview of the colors offered, I have scanned all the dominoes for you:

Colerful dominoes

If you want to order, please use the German names for the colors shown in the picture.

The originals

At Domino Day, they use dominoes with the dimensions of the dominoes mentioned above. The only difference to Maria Lamping dominoes is one tiny notch in the middle of the dominoes and smoother corners.

The originals

Mr. Domino

Mr. Domino is the new brand of Weijers Domino Productions. It has been introduced in September 2009 during our visit of the company. I've got 149 of them. Those dominoes do not seem to sell very well. Reasons for this are one the one hand that the dominoes are really expensive, on the other hand that they are quite slippery.

Dominoes from the toy shop

Domino Express

Domino Express is a special brand you can find almost in every toy shop. These stones are very light and are not that good for toppling. At the beginning of my "career", I used them quite a lot; that's why I've got about 1000 of them.

Domino Run

Almost as bad as Domino Express is Domino Run because of the tiny weight. Only the dimensions are different in comparison to Domino Express. Apart from that, every Run has a capital "D" printed on it, whatever this may stand for... :-)

Minis

Also available in some toy shops are very tiny plastic dominoes, so called minis. Unfortunately, those dominoes are not perfectly even and are (also because of their size) very diffult to set up.

Minis

Jenga

Jenga is a classical game where you have to pull out stones from a tower without letting it fall. These stones are larger than normal dominos and are also very good for toppling.

Translucent

Some time ago, another Ebay seller sold so called translucent dominos. Translucent Dominos (light-transmissive) must not be mistaken with transparent dominos (picture-transmissive). According to my knowledge, those dominoes are not being sold anymore.
