How do you build your direction changers?

I have been asked this question quite often, so I made a tutorial about my direction changers. Get it in the download section or here.

Why are there some fails in your projects?

When setting up a domino project, you can never be sure that the dominos will all topple afterwards. Dangerous points are special techniques, differences in height and much more. Of course, it is possible to leave out those dangerous parts, but this would be really boring, wouldn't it?

How do you change heights with dominos?

This is quite simple. You just have to connect two stones with a cord and try to tight it when setting up the dominos. Now, when one stone topples, the other one topples as well.

When will you upload another video with all stones / new techniques / ... ?

For me, this is a really difficult question to answer. I don't have that much time for my domino hobby, so most of my projects are built spontaneously without any plans in advance. So just wait and be surprised when I will upload a new video.

Where do you get all your ideas from?

Good question. I cannot give you a precise answer because I don't have to look for ideas, they're simply there. For me, it's quite sad when people write me e-mails asking if I could tell them a theme for a x-stone-domino-project. The domino hobby is not just about setting up stones, so start being creative and think of a theme for yourself ;-).

How do you plan domino fields?

I created a so called "domino fieldplanner" to help other domino builders and me with that topic. Get it in the download section (name: "Fieldplanner 3").

Dominos

Where do you buy your dominos?

Most of my dominos are from Maria Lamping, a woman who sells dominos with Domino Day dimensions on Ebay. There are more than 20 colors available. More information on those dominos and other brands can be found on the "My stones" page.

Where do you have the www.dominodomain.com stone from?

In order to get this special domino, I just had to contact Weijers Domino Productions asking for an autograph by Robin. The special stone then came together with the requested autograph via mail. But unfortunately, together with the launch of the Mr. Domino stones, Weijers Domino Productions stopped sending this special domino.

How do you store your dominos?

All of my dominos are stored in boxes bought at Ikea where you have to look for the wonderful name "Samla".

How many dominos do you have?

Technology

What kind of video editing program do you use?

For my first videos, I used Windows Movie Maker. I wasn't really satisfied with it, that's why I used Magix Video Deluxe 2005 for a very long time. Now, I'm using Sony Vegas Movie Studio and I really like it.

Where did you get the .de domain from and how much is it?

This domain was included in my internet flatrate, so it is for free.

What kind of video camcorder do you have?

I use a blue Handycam from Sony with the wonderful name DCR-SX30. But unfortunately, I'm not really satisfied with the recording quality. Maybe I will buy a HD-camcorder soon that should not be too expensive ;-).

What exactly is YouTube's AudioSwap function?

AudioSwap allows every user to add music to his / her videos. However, the disadavantage is the fact that the original audio is deleted when using AudioSwap. I had to use AudioSwap for my first 40 videos because I originally use songs that were not allowed to be published on YouTube.

And where does your music come from now?

I have a special archive containing a lot of pieces of music that can be used for videos on YouTube without any problems.

Podcast

Thank you for being interested in my monthly published domino podcast. Unfortunately, the podcast is only available in German as a bilingual podcast would be really difficult for me to make. Domino Day

What are your favourite Domino Day projects?

This is very difficult to say because every Domino Day was kind of unique. I really liked the "aqarium" project in Domino Day 2004. Apart from that, Domino Day 2008's 10 world record projects also belong to my favourites.

What Domino Day do you like most / least?

I really liked Domino Day 2006 with all those diffent kinds of music. However, I absolutely didn't like Domino Day 2007 and 2009 because of all those stupid fails.

Is it true that Domino Day is closed?

Yes, it is true. On the one hand, a part of Weijers Domino Productions has filed for bankruptcy. On the other hand, there are some complications with the producing company Endemol. That's why Domino Day is probably closed.
